Rolling Stock Components
Steloy has been involved in the production of components for rolling stock for a number of years. Castings for predominantly the bearing portion of the wheel assembly are supplied on a regular basis. Components include canon boxes, U-tubes and bearing housings.
We have also been responsible for the development and manufacture of railway self-steering bogie components for wagons supplied by Transwerk (since renamed Transnet Rail Engineering) for an iron ore mine in the Arctic Circle in Sweden. Calling for pioneering casting technology and development practices, the components had to be produced in special alloyed steels with exceptional dimensional accuracy, in order to operate at temperatures from 25°C to -40°C.
