Petrochemical Tube Sheets, Brackets and Fittings
Steloy has established itself as one of only a handful of suppliers worldwide that can cast a tube sheet of up to 2 tons or 5 metres in length, allowing designers the freedom to maximise tubes in ever decreasing spaces.
Produced in accordance with a number of ASTM specifications, static castings for the petrochemical industry can be divided into two main applications: return bends and tube supports. Materials for return bends (and other components in the same grouping such as Y-pieces, elbows and plug headers) are listed in Table 5 of API 560. Tube supports, for which major materials are listed in Table 8 of API 560, include tube sheets, side wall supports, tube hangers and brackets.
Static castings are subject to the requirements indicated by the applicable specifications and also to specific quality assurance requirements prescribed by the customer. These may include radiographic and liquid penetrant examination, inspection of dimensional tolerances and surface finish, and mechanical and stress rupture testing.

Tube supports - of which the major materials are listed in Table 8 of API 560 - include the following static components:
- Tube sheets
- Side wall supports
- Tube hangers
- Brackets
The alloys in which these components are produced have been indicated in the table above and also include a number of alloys not listed in API 560.
All these statically cast products are normally subjected to the requirements indicated by the applicable (Static) Cast Specifications but also to specific quality assurance requirements prescribed by the client, including:
- Radiographic examination (critical areas, especially tube sheets)
- Liquid penetrant examination
- Dimensional tolerances (as cast and/or machined)
- Surface finish (ASTM A802)
Another summary of castings examination is also given in API 560, section 14.3. Mechanical testing, if required, can be conducted at room temperature (as cast or after ageing) or at high temperature. Stress rupture tests, as a quality assurance measure, are often also required (e.g. ASTM A447 type II).
It must also be read in conjunction with Appendix D of API 560: Stress curves for use in the design of tube support elements, as well as the list of informative (ASTM) codes and standards listed in API 560 section 1.7.1.
